"It's a band that always puts the sound of music first," says Michael League, a band leader and bassist. Reflecting a wide range of influences, including funk, rhythm and blues, hard rock, classical soul, modern gospel, new technology, fusion and jazz, sneaky poppy is neither a jazz band, a fusion band, or a jam band. It is better to refer to the advice given by Neit Chinen of the New York Times in an online discussion about the group, saying, "I should accept what it is, rather than assessing what they are."
The dynamic, powerful, and calm sound of the latest Grammy-winning album "Empire Central" released in September 2022 was rooted in local culture, but moved outward and forward. The album was a love letter to Texas, and the group had a strong confidence that members continued to create their own sneaky papy sound while nostalgic for their hometowns.
"Our soundscapes are expanding dramatically year by year," the league says. "When the band started, it was more jazy, intelligent and music-oriented. When I moved to the scene of Dallas, I became even more gluvy and more emotional depth. We focused on conveying clear messages that listeners could understand, and we began to express it without making it too easy."
For Snakekey Pappie, who creates ever-evolving music, each album brings a new vision and a progressive direction. "Our rule is that we shouldn't have the same sound as before," and "music must feel like we're moving somewhere," the league commented. The band has released the 10th anniversary deluxe edition of the innovative album "We Like it Here". It also includes an album with remixes and remasters and songs of different versions, and an unpublished track released for the first time in the Grammy-winning orchestral album "Sylva". In addition, 2025 began with recording a new album with the Dutch Metropole Orkest, and a new vision will be developed for the GroundUP Music Festival in Miami in February. Fans are on the rise.
