CHTHONIC
Taiwan has an image of the mysterious island nation of the East, and a conflicting face such as advanced science and technology and modern cities.
CHTHONIC skillfully incorporates Taiwan's antipolar image into its own metal sound.
The sound is based on symphonic black metal and Melo Dick Death Metal, but the theme of the lyrics is influenced by Taiwan's mythology, folk tales, and history, and is said to be Taiwan's traditional folk music, enka ballad, and Kazaigi.
Their sound approach, which cannot be categorized in existing genres such as black metal, death metal, or fork metal, has attracted attention from all over the world as a unique sound that can only be expressed by Taiwanese bands.
From Japan's leading Fuji Rock, Summer Sonic, and Loud Park, to America's Oz Fest, UK downloads, and German Wakken Open Air, CHTHONIC has performed at famous rock festivals around the world, and has performed more than 200 performances in about 30 countries on world tours, undoubtedly as the top band in Asia in the metal scene.
Many CHTHONIC albums have been ranked on Taiwan's pop music charts and won the Best Band Award in the Golden Song Award (Taiwan Grammy Award). In addition to band activities, band members are also active in other fields. Bassist and leader Doris supports women's rights organizations and has also appeared in movies as an actress. Drum Dani focuses on music education to foster the younger generation of musicians. Guitarist Jesse and keyboard player CJ are working on album production for many Taiwan bands. Lead vocal Freddy is active in public affairs, including issues of human rights and social justice, and is currently active as a member of the Taiwan Parliament.
CHTHONIC's recent albums include "Seediq Bale (2007)" "Mirror of Retribution (2009)" "Takasago Army (2011)" and "Buttoku/Bú-Tik (2013)" released worldwide from Spine Farm Records, and every piece has been highly acclaimed.
In 2014, he released his first acoustic album, Timeless Sentence, performed at an unplugged concert by MTV Taiwan, and performed acoustic live at Fuji Rock in Japan.
At present, CHTHONIC has completed the comedy film "Shugumi" based on his own activities, and Lamb of God's lead vocal Randy Blythe plays a part and has become a hot topic. It is still undecided in Japan, but fans have been waiting for the release.
